Interested in forming residents' association
Peninsula News is seeking expressions of interest in forming a Peninsula Residents' Association to represent the views of the local community.
If enough interest exists, the newspaper will convene a meeting which would lead to the formation of an incorporated association.
"The Peninsula needs a well-organised residents' association to speak on behalf of the community," said Peninsula News editor Mr Mark Snell.
"While we have various resident groups around the Peninsula, most have been formed in response to specific issues or interests and none have a charter to represent the Peninsula community as a whole.
"Most of these groups simply exist informally on social media and do not have regular open democratic meetings."
Mr Snell said the community needed a residents' association that was willing to propose solutions which would protect and enhance the appeal of the Peninsula, and not just oppose council actions that threatened residents' quality of life.
It needed a positive, organised approach to understanding the community's needs and acting as an advocate for the Peninsula to authorities and the media, he said.
Anyone interested in being part of the association should send an email marked "Expression of interest" to editor@peninsula.news, indicating whether they would be willing to take a committee role.
