Group develops plan for Hardys Bay

The Hardys Bay Residents Group has developed a proposal to improve Hardys Bay in line with the Brisbane Water Estuary Management Plan.

The group has formulated a "Residents Environmental Action Plan" with goals that are consistent with the council's management plan for the bay, according to group president Mr Adrian Williams.

"It seems appropriate that our Group should employ its resources to work with Council in more readily achieving its objectives, namely those designated for Hardys Bay within the Brisbane Water Estuary Management Plan," he said.

He claimed the benefits of the proposal would include enhanced recreational usage in the foreshore precinct which would be carried out through the improvement of public access to those relevant foreshores which are zoned as recreational.

The proposal would also provide greater access to water sports including kayaking, windsurfing, canoeing and fishing in the foreshore precinct and the improved aesthetic enjoyment for tourists and locals through the enhancement of the natural and visual character of both the foreshores and waterways, he said.

The minimisation of rubbish accumulation in the foreshore precinct would also be a focus which would enhance water quality and reduce sedimentation through better water flow.

"We are currently reviewing our options to obtain government funding to implement phase one of our strategy," said Mr Williams.
