Don't smother local entrepreneurs
So, all but two Gosford councillors believe Umina must have a McDonald's in spite of over a thousand residents having signed petitions against the development.
All Councillors should read Anni Taylor's letter to the editor in the December 12 edition of Peninsula News to know what so many of us feel about this plan.
Umina Beach is coming alive slowly with small, often unique, businesses.
We should not spoil this growth by pushing too hard and too quickly and smothering the small entrepreneurs before they are given a chance to achieve their potential.
We live here and love it here.
Visitors enjoy coming here because we are a bit different and they know they can relax with us.
Council has an opportunity now to thoughtfully develop Woy Woy CBD as an attractive gateway to the Peninsula that encompasses the laid-back villages of the southern parts of Brisbane Water.
And councillors, don't forget, when doing your planning for the Peninsula, that we live on a mostly flat, coastal sand plain on top of an aquifer.
The health of that aquifer and those who live above it depend on your very best planning.
Please do keep all this in mind every time you install kerb and guttering or allow large-scale development.
