Age-appropriate Sorry Day activities held at Umina
Umina Beach Public School has held Sorry Day activities as part of National Reconciliation Week.
"Umina Beach Public School honours the strength, survival, and resilience of the Stolen Generations, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were forcibly removed from their families, and the communities who continue to live with the impact of those policies," said school principal Ms Karen Wardlaw.
"As a school that exists to nurture and protect children, we acknowledge the pain caused by systems and institutions that failed to do the same for First Nations families.
"We say sorry - not just in words, but in our commitment to listening, learning, and acting.
"Today, our students are engaging in age-appropriate conversations and learning led by First Nations voices.
"We recognise that reconciliation is not a one-day event, but a lifelong journey.
"We walk together in truth, empathy, and solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples - committed to a future built on justice, respect, and healing."
