Meeting to protect land for use by the community

A meeting will be held at Blackwall Reserve at 23 Memorial Ave at 11am on Wednesday, June 12, in support of a change of council classification of the reserve.

Member for Robertson Dr Gordon Reid will be in attendance, said organiser Ms Jane Hendy.

"We are hoping he will lend his support to the campaign to change the classification of the reserve.

"At the moment, it is classified as operational land, meaning it can be sold off to a developer.

"We are asking Council to designate it as community land so it can be protected and maintained for the use of the local community as a reserve."

Ms Hendy said: "It is also a valuable home for wildlife including microbats and boobook owls, and also contains an extensive aboriginal midden."

She said that anyone who cared about saving trees or reserves or aboriginal heritage sites should attend.

The reserve is situated near Wallaby St, between Memorial Ave and a laneway.
