'Demand exists' for fast food, says company

A fast food company has responded to letters in Peninsula News expressing concern about the development of an outlet in Umina.

McDonalds Australia media officer Ms Skye Oxenham said that while McDonalds was "sensitive to the local community's views, we are also aware that there is a demand for a restaurant at this site, and this is supported by the Council's decision to zone the area appropriately".

"McDonald's restaurants are popular, offering customers quick, convenient meals of reliable quality.

"We believe there is sufficient demand for a restaurant at Umina to consider submitting a development application for the site," said Ms Oxenham.

She said McDonalds will work closely with Council to take a consultative approach with the local community.

"It's early stages at this point.

"We have only just lodged the development application with Council and as such Council will assess the application as it would with any application that they receive," said Ms Oxenham.
