Event raises $26,000

A local fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation has raised $26,000 in its 10th year at Hardys Bay RSL

Committee member Ms Tammy Jacket said: "Last year we banked $14,219.55 and we set our sights much higher this year, raising $26000 thanks to a turnout of 160 women.

"We are a group of local ladies; Marg Berry, Heidi Holt, Tanya Magee, Julie Oliver and Mandy Steven, who have come together to actively raise money for research for the National Breast Cancer Foundation."

This was the 10th year of the event, which was held this year on Friday, October 14.

"Socially, the luncheon has become a great day for women to support one another whilst at the same time raising money," said Ms Jacket.

"Although we have seen much progress in treatment through raising awareness, this disease continues, impacting on the lives of friends and family.

"The silent auction was a huge success with bidding starting weeks earlier; sheets were displayed at the club promoting the sponsors and flyers distributed throughout our surrounding areas," she said.
