Millions will see picture

Pearl Beach resident Mr Bryan Smith, a former presenter of the science and technology television show Beyond 2000, has won a global photographic competition.

Mr Smith retired from his career in TV to follow his passion for photography.

He was named one of three winners of the Skywards Future Artists Competition.

Mr Smith's modernist photo will be viewed by over six million people next year across 236 countries and territories as it will be featured on the Skywards 2012 frequent-flyer membership cards.

Mr Smith's winning design was selected from over 2250 entries from around the world.

Mr Smith captured his winning image by positioning the camera upwards to follow the architectural lines of the building.

He said he chose this particular image as it conveyed interest and evoked an emotional response from the process of trying to read the image.

In addition to the year-long global exposure of his art, Mr Smith will receive a commission of US $5000 and will be flown to Dubai where the artist's winning entry and design portfolio will be exhibited at the Art Dubai Fair early next year.

Art Dubai is the leading contemporary art fair in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia and is attended by art critics, collectors and gallery owners from around the world, he said.
