Bowling clubs hold memorial day

Umina Beach Men's and Women's Bowling Clubs held their annual Memorial Day on Sunday. August 4.

The day was held "to remember those members who had passed away," said men's club secretary Mr Peter Springett.

The Umina Beach women's club committee organised the afternoon, arranging teams and conducting the afternoon proceedings, he said.

A total of 30 players plus visitors attended.

The men's committee invited past bowlers who could no longer bowl to acknowledge their past achievements and support of the club.

"Past president Ian Jarratt welcomed Brian Burrows, Brian Broderick, Alan Casey, Ross McIntyre."

Apologies were received from several past members, who were unable to attend.

"There were some fond memories and tales discussed around the table over a couple of drinks," said Mr Springett.

"Rex Hunt conducted a memorial service for the many members who had passed on in previous years and lit a candle in their memory.

"The afternoon bowls and pleasant weather conditions made the afternoon an enjoyable day for those in attendance."
