Rotary team raises $13,500 in Variety Bash
The Rotary Club of Umina Beach has raised $13,500 for the children's charity Variety.
Last week's club meeting heard about the exploits of the Rotary Old Boys, three club members who had recently returned after completing the Variety Bash.
They travelled from Bathurst NSW to Batavia Coast at Geraldton WA, a distance of some 5500km in 10 days.
A number of photos were displayed and one of the three, Mr Ian Johnson, gave a summary of the days.
"The unbreakable Toyota HiLux made the distance with minimal fuss," said club president Mr Wayne Dowdle, another one of the three.
"I would estimate that we travelled on dirt for around 80 per cent of the trip."
He said the event raised a total of $1.5 million and Variety gave out near $80,000 to nine outback schools along the way in four states.
