Rotary club seeks donations of unused mobile phones
The Rotary Club of Brisbane Water is seeking donations of unused mobile phones for homeless people in need of a phone.
"Our club is helping to give people who are homeless or sleeping rough access to donated mobile phones, through Health on The Streets," said the club's project officer Ms Jayne Mote.
"Health on The Streets is a mobile health clinic that takes healthcare to rough sleepers and people experiencing homelessness around the Central Coast.
"The van is at Mary Mac's every Monday until about 1pm.
"All tests are carried out under a gazebo.
"There is a team of four or five who rotate."
Ms Mote said: "Homeless people need a phone to make contact with social services as they have no permanent address and that's where we come in.
"We are collecting phones that people don't need any more.
"Many people keep old phones in a drawer when they upgrade, not realising that those old phones can be a lifesaver for people in need."
To donate, contact Ms Mote on 0405 714 289 or phone Health on The Streets direct on 4365 2294.
