Surf club seeks teams for 24-hour rowing fundraiser
Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club is participating in a 24-Hour Row for Mental Fitness fundraiser from midday Saturday, September 9.
The club is seeking teams of six people to sign up for 15-minute sessions on a rowing machine.
"It's our club's first year taking part and we're pleased to report that we've already seen funds raised pass the $1000 mark," said club president Mr Scott Hannell.
"We're off to a great start and we'd love members of the community to sign up, and have a go, so we can keep building from there."
Mr Hannell said the 24-hour row was a way of getting the community together to make a real difference in communities' mental health.
Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch is supporting of the 24-Hour Row.
"Every dollar raised makes a difference and every $40 raised funds one person to do a mental fitness workshop," she said.
"I'll be getting down there on the weekend to show my support and have some fun, too, while highlighting the importance of mental fitness.
"I'm looking forward to seeing people down at the club, raising awareness of the impact of mental health on our community."
People can sign up on the 24-Hour Row website at https://24hourrow.com.au.
The 24 Hour Row was started in 2017 by Mel and Nathan Wellings at Avalon Beach surf club after a number of tragic suicides in the area.
