Petition started to reclassify Memorial Ave reserve
Peninsula residents concerned with the green space off Memorial Ave, Blackwall, between Warwick and Wallaby Sts, have launched a petition to the Central Coast Council requesting Lots 21 and 23 Memorial Ave, Blackwall, be re-classified as "community land".
The lots were under threat when the then Council Administrator Mr Dick Persson placed the site on the Tranche 3 sell-off," said petition organiser Ms Joy Cooper.
"The site was subsequently removed from the list, but remains under threat as it is classified as 'operation land' which is much easier for council to sell off without community consultation.
"The reserve is heavily treed with remnant Umina Coastal Sandplain Woodland and is the lowest point in Blackwall.
"Not only does the site have large habitat trees which include banksias, swamp mahoganies and blackbutts, it is also a listed aboriginal site."
Residents wanting to sign the petition should contact the Facebook page "Hands OFF The Reserve on Memorial Avenue Blackwall".
