Teen dance party commended
A teen dance party run on the Peninsula in April by the Young, Authentic and Social program has received recognition in State Parliament.
"The April teen dance party was the third of its kind on the Peninsula," said Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch.
She described the program as "a transformative arts and cultural program tackling the Coast's youth mental health problem through creative workshops, celebrations and social groups".
She said that once again the dance party had attracted young people from across the Coast to dance, make friends, watch and participate in shows "and generally have a great time together".
"The program focuses on young people aged 12 to 24 years old, supporting and celebrating diverse identities and abilities, including LGBTQIA+, aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth and people with disability."
She said the program, led by youth worker Ms Carlee Heise, was "a fabulous collection of happiness and vibrancy for everyone involved".
"Alongside Mingaletta and Headspace, the program has created the safe space and support network for marginalised youth across the Central Coast.
"I thank Carlee and all our local services who have joined together to allow such positive energy to flourish."
