Two travel-themed books to be launched at library
Two travel-themed books by Central Coast authors Sally Jane Smith and Zoe Farrell will be launched at Woy Woy library at 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 8.
They are Unpacking for Greece by Sally Jane Smith and Daph and Ern's Adventures: Finding Yourself on the Road by Zoe Farrell.
In Unpacking for Greece, Sally Jane Smith explores Greece's heritage landscapes with her mum's 1978 travel diary in her pocket, searching for the wanderlust she lost in a devastating overseas road accident.
Ms Smith said she had a fascination with Greece's natural and cultural heritage and had attempted to tell the story, with warmth and humour, of how she connected with her past, overcame her fears and fell in love with life again, "one olive at a time".
Zoe Farrell said her characters Daph and Ern were "a cranky old couple, and the alter egos of the author and her husband, Aaron".
Travelling around Australia in a campervan, they discovered that their negative thoughts and feelings were responsible for creating their seemingly difficult life, Ms Farrell said.
"Everybody loves a funny story, but this book also has an underlying message that happiness is our birthright and it is easy to find it when you know where to look: within."
The two books are among 15 by local writers selected for free literary events run in the lead-up to the Words on the Waves Writers' Festival and after the main festival program.
Tickets are free and can be booked online at https://wordsonthewaves.com.au/book-launches-2023/.
