Police seek help with Ettalong arson investigation

NSW Police Arson Unit detectives have released closed circuit television footage, with an appeal for public information about an arson attack in Ettalong last August.

The footage was released following investigations of a fire at a Marrickville restaurant on Friday, May 30.

Police are appealing for information to locate a man they believe may have information about both arsons.

The man is described as being of Mediterranean or Middle Eastern appearance, about 185cm tall and of medium build.

The man has black, curly, shoulder length hair, and wears glasses.

He was also seen driving a grey Toyota Hilux at a nearby service station around the time of the Ettalong arson.

Emergency services were called to Memorial Ave, Ettalong, in the early hours of Friday, August 9, last year following reports of a fire at a tobacconist.

The blaze was extinguished by Fire and Rescue NSW and the scene was examined by specialist police.

Officers from Brisbane Water Police District commenced investigations under Strike Force Fortrose before the matter was referred to State Crime Command's Financial Crimes Squad Arson Unit.

Anyone with information about the identity of the man or either incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
