Artist raises awareness and money for mental health
A Umina artist has opened an exhibition in a Woy Woy cafe to raise awareness and money for mental health.
Mr Darren McIntosh artwork will be displayed in the Link and Pin cafe in Woy Woy during May with a portion of the sales donated to the Black Dog Institute.
About 20 people attended the opening held on Saturday, May 11.
Mr McIntosh said he also had a fundraiser page where donations could be made directly to the Institute.
He said he had raised more than $1300 through the page.
"I'm hoping this exhibition will build on that," he said.
"Of the sales, 40 per cent goes towards the fund-raiser the other 60 per cent will allow me to continue painting and raise more donations and awareness around mental health.
"Over the last 30-odd years, I've seen a handful of close friends take their lives.
"One of them, Damo, was a close cousin, who took his life 15 years ago.
"I want to continue working with Black Dog as a fund-raiser and hopefully my works will encourage those in need to reach out."
