Charity bowls celebrates six years at Ettalong
Wednesday Charity Bowls has celebrated six years at Ettalong Bowling Club.
"Starting with a small group of 30 bowlers, rising to 70 players in week two, the Club now hosts over 100 bowlers every Wednesday," said organiser Mr Ken Dixon.
"Our bowlers come from several local clubs including Umina and Everglades, Gosford and Ourimbah.
"And, of course, the old Woy Woy bowlers are there in big numbers.
"From the outset, the local Ettalong bowlers have welcomed newcomers to the Club.
"It is a great morning of social bowls and the biggest weekly bowling event on the Ettalong calendar.
"For a cost of only $10 per player, bowlers receive a game of bowls plus a meal which varies each week .
"The food can range from hot dogs, sausage or steak sandwiches, hamburgers, pizzas, fish and chips and Hawaiian burgers.
"A seafood day is held twice a year.
"The Wednesday bowlers can also win a jackpot.
"We regularly make donations to charities such as Mary Mac's Place and Central Coast Kids in Need.
"The $10 payment is shared evenly between the Ettalong Bowlo for green fees and the bowlers for their food.
"A weekly raffle augments the fundraising.
"This arrangement was negotiated between Club director Mr Kerry Watkins and bowls coordinator Mr John Roberts.
"Known as Dicko's Dogs, we welcome all new bowlers to the Club each Wednesday.
"Many of our new bowlers have commenced their bowling careers as Wednesday bowlers.
"It is only a matter of writing your name on the sheet at the Club and you will be guaranteed a game."
