Surfers raise more than $11,000 for cancer research
A local group of surfers, the Kook Warriors, have raised more than $11,000 for cancer research.
They participated in SurFebruary, raising the money for Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, surfing at beaches across the Central Coast, including Ocean Beach
Team leader Ms Vanessa Hession said she had been looking for a way to raise money and awareness after her own "cancer journey".
"SurFebruary has been such a great way to combine my love of the ocean and raise money for cancer research at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse."
Sponsored by local surf school owner, Ms Sally Oman, the Kook Warriors plan to continue in the annual event to bring awareness and support to the local community.
Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch has applauded the group's efforts.
"What a fantastic way to raise money, getting out on the beautiful water of the Central Coast, while bringing a community of like-minded people together who are united by one goal."
Donations are still being accepted.
