Shade trees group reaches 1000-tree milestone

The Grow Urban Shade Trees group has planted 1000 trees on the Peninsula.

The team of Ms Jan Deighton, Ms Jennifer Wilder, Ms Miriam McInnes, Ms Lesley Harvey and Ms Debbie Sunartha see the achievement as a significant milestone, proud of having a survival rate of over 90 per cent.

They have put the success down to all those people who have adopted and cared for a tree and to volunteers who have helped with watering.

"You are part of our success story," said member Ms Jen Wilder.

"We still have a long way to go in increasing canopy to mitigate the urban heat that is a serious concern for our health and liveability.

"We will continue to advocate for tree retention of mature trees, street tree planting and protection of wildlife habitat."
