Woy Woy scores convincing win over Gosford-Kariong

Woy Woy scored a convincing win over the newly-established Gosford-Kariong team in Round 1 of the Central Coast Rugby Union competition at Gosford Showground on Saturday, April 5.

Winning by 71 points to six. Woy Woy controlled proceedings for much of the match despite a great effort by the home team.

Woy Woy was able to score consistently throughout the contest.

The opening stages of the match were quite close however and Woy Woy only led by 14-3 at the midway point of the first half.

However, by halftime, they had jumped to a 31-6 lead and things were looking good for them.

Gosford tried everything to get back into the contest but Woy Woy was too strong on the day.

Woy Woy got stronger as the match went on and were able to post a further 40 points in the second half.

Best players for Woy Woy were No.8 Sete Falekaono, five-eight Harri Williams, the Fleming brothers, Corey and Damien, and centre Jean Besombes, who crossed for three tries.

"It was a great turnaround for Woy Woy who had a tough year in 2024," said rugby union publicity officer Mr Larry Thomson.

"Gosford-Kariong will get stronger and stronger as the season progresses."
