Children and adults to create leaves for public art
A school holiday activity for children and adults at Umina Library will "create ceramic leaves for the Alba Tree', a public art installation at the Pearl Beach Arboretum.
The activity will be held in two sessions on Monday, April 14, from 9:30am to 11am and from 11:30am to 1pm.
The sessions will be facilitated by professional artist Ms Shellie Christian.
"The Alba Tree symbolises new beginnings and hope, inspired by the word Alba, meaning dawn," said Ms Christian.
"Like the first light of day, it represents growth, change, and transformation.
"More than a symbol, it is a community-driven public art project that will come to life during a two week period where The Alba Tree will be on display at The Arboretum in Pearl Beach.
"The tree's steel structure, enhanced with driftwood, will be built on-site, with the handcrafted clay leaves added to the tree to reflect its rebirth.
"To foster community involvement, free clay leaf-making workshops will be held, inviting people of all ages to create unique leaves that will become part of the tree.
"The transformation will be celebrated at an opening event on National Tree Day, Sunday, July 27.
"After The Alba Tree showing, all participants will receive their leaves, along with a thank-you card and a link to a time-lapse video capturing the tree's journey."
The activity is suitable for all ages from eight years to adult.
All children need to be accompanied by an adult and families are welcome.
Tickets must be booked for each participant attending.
Bookings may be made at the library or by phone on 4304 7333.
