Three generations at Malibu Club
A founding member of the association in 1962 that became the Ocean Beach Malibu Club has seen three generations of his family surf with the club.
John Young, 79, was a founding member of the Ocean Beach Surfing Association in 1962 Now his son Pete and grandsons Jarvis, Jye and Koa all enjoy the friendly competition between mates, as well as the social side of being members of Umina Boardriders and Grommet Umina Boardriders (GRUBS), said Pete's wife Samantha.
"All three generations who call Umina home and all share a passion for surfing.
"Mostly they just enjoy being out in the ocean, which is where you'll find them most afternoons and weekends."
Pete no longer competes but still enjoys the occasional surf.
"Dad is an inspiration to us and many other surfers in the area.
"I hope to still be surfing when I'm 79 and can take a photo with my grandkids," said Pete.
