Code club starts for primary students
Umina Beach Public School is starting a lunchtime "code club" to "equip students with the skills they need for future employment ... and help them to problem solve and become logical thinkers".
"Young people should not just become consumers of the web, but become critical analysers of the digital world around them," said teacher Ms Jan Estens.
"Code is the language used to instruct computers.
"Social media, smart phone apps and websites are all made with code.
"It's simply computer programming.
"There are a range of different programming languages you can use."
Code Club will meet on Tuesday lunchtimes.
The club can only have 20 students from Stage 2 and Stage 3 and they must bring their own computer.
