Sailor rescued from wind and tide
A lone sailor and his 28 foot yacht were rescued off Blackwall Point in Brisbane Water on Sunday, October 16.
The engine of the yacht had failed and the sailor had become exhausted attempting to sail his yacht south into the prevailing 15-20 knot southerly and an incoming tidal flow that strengthened as he approached the Rip Bridge.
He anchored his vessel and called Marine Rescue, seeking help to return to his mooring.
The duty boat crew Terry Reynolds, Brian Palmer and Dennis Collins went to his assistance with the inshore rescue boat, Gosford 10.
The yachtsman requested a tow to a commercial mooring adjacent to the marina at Hardys Bay to enable his engine to be serviced by the marina after the weekend.
