Umina wins surf weekend
Umina Surf Life Saving Club has won at the 2011 Weekend of Surf for the fourth year in a row.
Umina placed first with 420 points, Shelly Beach second with 231 points and Terrigal third with 182 points.
Over 40 clubs competed in the competition held on the first weekend in October at Forster with 202 competitors for Saturday's Ironman Event and 330 competitors for the Sunday.
Umina had 20 competitors compete in Saturday's Iron person event with nearly all finishing in the top 10.
Lachlan Braddish placed first in the under-10 boys Iron person while Mimi Henderson placed first in the under-12 girls, Jemma Smith third in the under-13 girls, Indigo Verhoven first in the under-15 girls, Lara Reineker second in the under-15 girls and Helen Krucler third in the under-17 girls.
Hollie Spender placed first in the 30s female Iron person event while Kerry Armstrong Smith placed second in the 40s female and Steve Murphy third in the 40s male.
Sunday was the Carnival Day and the Umina team was made up of 50 competitors, ranging in ages from under-10s to over-50s.
Umina dominated in all age groups despite a water temperature of 16 degrees with black, white and blue caps seen all over the beach.
Overall point score winners for the Sunday Carnival were Lachlan Braddish in the under-10s, Hollie Spender in the 30s female and Kerry Armstrong Smith in the 40s female.
