Sporting achievements are recognised
Brisbane Water Secondary College held its annual Sporting Excellence Presentation Night to recognise students from both campuses for their dedication, commitment and achievement in all college team and individual sports.
More than 180 students, parents and college staff attended the special ceremony at Woy Woy Leagues Club.
Special guest and NRL referee Shayne Hayne provided an insight into the life of a professional rugby league referee.
"Top awards on the night went to the blue team house of Davis for winning the overall point score in the college swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals," event coordinator Mr Matt Marker said.
"Other major award winners of the night included Chelsea Campbell and Sally Oman who were the top all rounders for the year, representing the college in 12 sports.
"Alex Lash received the Rodney Fowler Award for his effort and commitment to rugby league and rugby union at the school.
"Alex also made state representation in rugby union this year.
"The Commitment to Sport Award, provided by local business Tonkin Drysdale Partners, was awarded to Chelsea Campbell and Bennet Leslie from the Woy Woy Campus and Breannan Singman and Jake Raw from the Umina Campus."
Mr Marker said the Senior Sportsperson of the Year Award was shared between David Mainwaring and Kevin Moore.
"David was recognised with this prestigious award for his gold medal performances at state athletics and cross country carnivals and for his state representation in triathlon while Kevin was awarded for his gold medal at state athletics," Mr Marker said.
"Kevin was also recognised for his selection in the Olympic Games Stadium Test event in Beijing and the Youth Commonwealth Games in India.
"Renee Mainwaring received the Female Sportsperson of the Year for her gold medal effort in state athletics, state representation in triathlon and achieving the triple-crown by winning age champion in all three sport carnivals.
"The Junior Sportsperson of the Year was awarded to Thomas McParlane for his efforts in swimming at events for Sydney North at state level this year and to Shana Jones for all round sporting achievements.
"Shana is a Sydney North representative athletics and also a member of the college's successful touch football and futsal teams."
Mr Marker thanked all college staff and parents for giving up their valuable time to organise, train and transport the students to various sporting events throughout the year.
