Tuvalu lament is a warning
I recently heard the Prime Minister of Tuvalu (Pacific islands north of Fiji) lamenting the plight of his lands and people.
Much of that land is only one to two metres above sea level and is likely to be lost at any time to the rising seas.
Already many of the ground crops have been ruined.
Many of the dunes at Ettalong are about the same height and protect the flat sandplain behind; the Woy Woy Peninsula.
Despite letters of protest to the Council explaining the follies and contradictions in their Ettalong Foreshore Plan 2003, which will see the loss of much of the dunes in order to procure an unrestricted view of the coast, the mayor informs us that it has been adopted and that's that.
Might I suggest that the people of the Peninsula ensure that they have access to a boat and have their homes put up on piles as soon as possible before they have the same problems as the residents of Wamberal, St Hubert's Island and Norah Head.
