We cannot drink the economy

Only a few weeks ago, the Gosford Council adopted the Draft Peninsula Urban Directions Strategy which according to Cr Maher, "...will encourage sustainable population growth."

Cr Maher also said that "... the existing water supply, sewage, waste disposal and stormwater drainage can withstand the projected population increase." (Peninsula News, May 1)

This week Cr Maher along with other councillors and Members of the State Government, proclaimed that the lack of water on the Central Coast is at crisis point.

How can we accommodate any more people on the Peninsula when we do not have enough water for the present population?

This just confirms my long held view that overpopulation is the greatest problem facing us today; not only on the Central Coast but in Australia and in fact the world.

History shows that when an unsustainable situation is reached, man simply moves to another place.

Now there is nowhere left to go.

Australia is not an empty land just waiting to be covered by people.

It is an ancient, infertile land and is already overpopulated.

Australia must decide on a population policy instead of just adding to the population with no thought of sustainability.

All we hear about from our leaders is "the economy", but we cannot drink the economy. Let us debate the real problem honestly, instead of spouting nonsense.
