John Squires celebrates 100 years
A man who has lived has lived many years on the Peninsula celebrated 100 years of age on Wednesday, July 9.
John Squires, who has two daughters and a son, five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, currently lives at Hillview House aged care facility in Woy Woy.
Born John Cornelius Squires in Campbelltown on July 9, 1925, John's family moved to Maroubra when he was eight, said daughter Ms Julie Dufficy of Umina.
"It was here that he developed a lifelong love of swimming and other water activities," she said.
"After leaving school, John studied accountancy before joining the airforce where he served for several years.
"When he left the forces, he continued his studies and worked as an accountant, finally retiring at 80.
"John relocated to the Central Coast in 1988, living on the Peninsula for many years before moving to Wyoming.
"He now resides at Hillview House at Woy Woy."
Ms Dufficy said he credited his longevity to regular exercise, keeping an active brain and having a hobby that he enjoys.
"John likes to paint landscapes.
"The odd piece of cake also helps."
