Reverse Mufti Day raises money for charity

Umina Beach Public School has held a Reverse Mufti Day to raise money for charity on its last day of term, Friday, June 30.

The fundraiser, which asked for a gold coin donation, was aimed to support local kids in need through the We Care Connect organisation, said principal Ms Karen Wardlaw.

A total of $300 was raised.

Instead of wearing traditional "mufti", students were encouraged to wear their uniform backwards or inside out.

Ms Wardlaw said the idea arose because, for some families, finding something other than normal school uniform that was clean and acceptable to wear could bring more stress than smiles, or more embarrassment than excitement.

"This way, we can still enjoy the last day of term and have a little fun, while remembering and supporting others in our community who may need a little extra assistance at this time of the year.

"We're grateful to our parents who suggested this 'reverse mufti' idea.

"It captures the heart of our school," she said.
