Double-header at next folk club concert

The next concert of the Troubadour Folk Club will be a double-header concert and will be held on a Friday evening at the Everglades Country Club in Woy Woy.

The concert will feature Sydney-based Kejafi and Tasmania's Marcus Sturrock and will start at 7pm on Friday, July 21.

"Kejafi's music stems from their love of traditional folk tunes and songs that celebrate the deep cultural connections between Australia and Scotland," said folk club secretary Ms MaryAnne Howland.

"Their music re-imagines older tunes and songs to the modern era, some of which have strongly influenced folk music in Australia.

"They also bring beautifully composed original material that keeps the living tradition of folk music alive and thriving."

Ms Howland said that Marcus Sturrock includes singing, vocal scatting in harmony with his guitar notes and instrumental performances, along with story telling, often related to fascinating people he's met on his world concert tours.

"As one of the known pioneers of intricate guitar body percussion, Marcus occasionally incorporates percussive beats on the guitar's body while playing," she said.

She said people had described his style as "emotively weaving folk, funk, jazz, Middle Eastern, Celtic, flamenco and more with technical ease, diverse percussive beats on the guitar's body, while simultaneously playing melody, harmony, and scatting; a stand-out, innovative composer".

Tickets are available through the club's website at http://www.troubadour.org.au for $25 or $20. "There is a discount for those who are unable to pay the standard prices."

With inquiries, call MaryAnne on 0407 917 117.

Limited tickets will be available at the door.
