Umina health service wins Patients First Award
A Umina health service has won the Patients First Award in the Hunter, New England and Central Coast Primary Care Quality and Innovation Awards on
Umina Podiatry was presented with the award by the Primary Health Network on Friday, June 23, at Newcastle City Hall.
Umina Podiatry owner Mr Dwight Bilson started Podiatry On The Street after meeting a Health on the Streets team.
The service brings podiatry to people experiencing homelessness, and works alongside the Health on the Streets team.
"The collaboration draws people to use both services, along with the opportunity to provide donated footwear to those that need it," said Network chief executive Mr Richard Nankervis.
"The innovative use of cloud-based practice management and clinical information systems allows for timely reporting to associated medical practitioners, and often referral into mainstream services.
"The Patients First Award is awarded to healthcare organisations and service providers that put people and communities first in their practice.
"They demonstrate engagement strategies to support best practice outcomes for the centre, the community, and their patients."
