Tree group gives reasons for saving council reserves
Grow Urban Shade Trees has stated its reasons for getting behind efforts to save council reserves on the Peninsula.
"We know how hard it is to find space on public land to plant trees," said group member Ms Michelle Chandler in a social media post.
"We need more space, not less.
"We've been involved in two projects (so far) that transformed 'waste' land into amazing, valued play areas.
"So we know a dull, blank spot is really a community opportunity waiting to happen.
"We know how hard it is to nurture small trees to maturity, and therefore we see intrinsic value and economic logic in saving mature trees.
"We object to Council raising money when we have no assurance that it will be spent or invested, wisely."
Ms Chandler said that residents should speak out against the council land sales.
"This is our chance to influence the future.
"Demand thorough consultancy and transparency around future community land sales."
