Grade 6 Pennant comes down to the wire for Umina

Umina Beach lost to Halekulani in the Grade 6 Pennants Flag Final played on May 23 in the Bowls Central Coast Zone 15 competition.

Umina secretary Mr Peter Springett said: "What a sensational final this was!

"Umina Beach had a good lead early and held it to late in the game.

"Halekulani just kept hanging in there and nibbled away at the lead, until they were three shots up with one end to go.

"Umina were holding four shots with just the skips' bowls to go.

"Fortunately for Halekulani, their skip Stuart Benjamin kept a cool head and drew a close third shot.

"Umina skip Terry Murphy, who had a sensational game, just missed pushing Stuart's bowl out of the head, which gave Halekulani a one-shot win after 63 nail biting ends.

"It was a sensational come-from-behind win by Halekulani."
