Preschool children plant vegetables and flowers

Preschool children at Woy Woy Public School have planted an assortment of fruits, vegetables and flowers in the school's garden.

"The children have been sowing seeds, planting seedlings, ensuring the beds are topped up with water and pulling weeds when needed," said preschool teacher Ms Whitney Williams.

"We plan on harvesting some of the foods before the end of term so the children can reap the rewards of all of their efforts in the garden.

"The project has been a wonderful learning opportunity for the children to learn about using authentic tools in the garden, and to trial and test out new ways of growing things."

Ms Williams said the children learned about sustainability when using rainwater to water the gardens and promoting healthy food options.

"We are hoping our garden attracts some buzzing bees as this has been a huge topic of interest in the preschool as well."
