Woman arrested for stealing

Police have arrested a 52-year-old Umina Beach woman for theft.

They claim she approached a 74-year-old woman who was shopping at Woy Woy at 8:15am on Thursday, June 29.

The perpetrator distracted the older woman to steal her purse from the top of her trolley, police say.

She then hid the purse in her bag and left, before the victim realised her purse had been stolen.

Upon realising it, the victim reported the matter to police.

Police reviewed closed circuit TV footage which had captured the incident and they were able to identify the perpetrator.

The woman was arrested at 10pm on July 18 at a Umina house.

Police claim she admitted the offence and was subsequently charged with one count of stealing from a person.
