Cross country run raises $700
Students from St John the Baptist Primary School have raised $700 for Project Compassion through its annual cross country event.
P&F publicity officer Ms Stacey Saul said students from across all grades got involved in the fundraising initiative.
"Project Compassion is the largest humanitarian fundraising campaign in Australia and the staff and students of St John the Baptist chose the annual cross country as a perfect opportunity to fundraise," Ms Saul said.
"The cross country became known as Caritas K's and students were sponsored per lap. "Students were reminded that the laps they were running would help raise funds for those who have to cover many kilometres each day to fetch water, obtain food, get to school or market or simply to survive.
"Teachers Ms Helen Crawford and Ms Mary-Anne Diorio have been coordinating the Caritas fundraising event which ended up raising $700.
"The Project Compassion appeal falls across the six-weeks of Lent, beginning Ash Wednesday, February 25, and ends on Easter Sunday, April 12."
