'Double treat' at folk club concert

The Troubadour Folk Club is promoting its September concert featuring two bands as a "double treat".

The first band will be Jack n Jel n Mac n Wal and the second RareTreats.

Club secretary Ms MaryAnne Howland said they were "two of the most inspiring bands to have emerged from the fringe folk scene in Australia".

"Jack n Jel n Mac n Wal are a four-part harmony band full of rich vocals, original songs and covers that are a bit country, jazzy and prog rock.

"From Newcastle and the Hunter, Mark Jackson and Jane Jelbart with Ruth McCrae and John Wallace are performers who can teach, teachers who can perform, and multi-instrumentalists, including guitar, bass, banjo, trumpet and ukulele.

"Their original song-writing is tender, toe-tapping and often silly."

She said: "RareTreats is a four-piece, multi-instrumental band from the Central Coast with four-part harmonies."

Band members are Cec Bucello, Trudy Van Laar, Greg Frohlich and Dave Rowe.

"Instruments include keyboard, guitar, mandolin, ukulele and suitcase percussion."

They will present original material and "other uncovered great music as a rare treat for listeners", Ms Howland said.

The concert will be held at 7pm on Saturday, September 28, at the Everglades Country Club.
