School to hold book swap to share love of reading

Umina Beach Public School students will be participating in a book swap on Monday, September 2.

"We are promoting reading and recycling by asking students to share a book that they love but no longer need and are willing to donate to other students," said the school's teacher librarian Ms Melisa Deas.

"Students will be asked to bring one or two appropriate and clean second-hand books into the library on their library day.

"Students can then select a book for themselves to take home and keep."

In addition, for Indigenous Literacy Day, students will have the opportunity to wear mufti in red, yellow, black, blue, green and white (the colours of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island flags) on Thursday, September 5.

"We will be asking students to consider donating a gold coin on this day."

Donations will be forwarded to buy children's books for remote indigenous communities.
