Longest-serving cricket player dies

The man who was the longest-serving player and a life member of Woy Woy Cricket Club has died at the age of 88 on Wednesday, August 14.

Scoring more than 10,000 runs, Mr Bobby Hook was the most prolific run-scorer for the club, which was a predecessor of the Southern Spirit Cricket Club.

Woy Woy lawyer Mr Paul Tonkin announced his death: "Unfortunately, Bobby was caught out last night on the boundary for 88.

"After a great knock on his home strip playing comfortable, he didn't quite get enough on a short one.

"Family are very proud of his knock.

"Vale Bobby."

In its social media post, Southern Spirit Cricket Club said: "An integral member of the Woy Woy Cricket Club, Bob received the Australian Sports Medal for his contribution to local cricket.

"He was awarded his cherished number 8 cap issued by the Australian Cricket Board, upon being selected in the inaugural Australian Over-70s team playing an Ashes Series against England."
