Empire Bay Dr was closed for several hours during the incident, causing major traffic delays.

A party trick went wrong for an Empire Bay man on recently.

The man, 30, was flown from Gosford Hospital to the burns unit at Concord Hospital after he attempted to perform a fire breathing party trick using lighter fluid.

A possible explosion was prevented by firefighters at Hardys Bay home recently.

Crews form NSW Fire Brigades and NSW Rural Fire Service attended the blaze at Araluen Dr where the fire had engulfed the garage and lower ground floor of the three-storey home.

An Empire Bay man has begun a jail sentence for stealing nearly $1 million from his relatives.

He will spend at least two years and nine months in jail for the "substantial" emotional harm and financial damage he cause his family in a three-year spree which ended in October 2004.
