Seniors' stories published by NSW Government
Stories by two members of the Peninsula community are among 100 selected from 560 entries for inclusion in the 10th edition of Seniors' Stories, published by the NSW Government.
Member of the Woy Woy branch of the Country Women's Association, Ms Jane Bowtell, and local psychologist Ms Wen Gibson have had their stories published in the 260-page book.
Member for Gosford Ms Liesl Tesch said: "Our talented seniors continue to amaze and inspire me each year with their wonderful stories of years past.
"Seniors' Stories was introduced in 2013 to recognise and value the experiences of NSW seniors.
"The competition is open to all Seniors Card and Senior Savers Card holders and offers the opportunity to showcase different cultures, backgrounds and languages, told through real, lived experiences."
Ms Bowtell said: "It was a spur of the moment decision to enter the seniors' short story competition but I am glad I did.
"Being selected as one of the 100 authors to be published in the book has spurred me on to continue my writing journey with confidence and a renewed commitment and vigour."
Ms Gibson said: "I was delighted to be included in this important Seniors' Stories collection.
"My short story, Speaking Through Dysfluency, is a glimpse into a book I have recently written, Stammering Against Truth.
"It feels important that we seniors have an avenue for sharing our lives."
Seniors' Stories Volume 10 is available at local libraries and can be downloaded as PDF or audiobook via http://PenNe.ws/NN5HRM.
