Woy Woy campus student airlifted after burns incident
A "burns incident" at Woy Woy campus of Brisbane Water Secondary College on Tuesday, December 3, has resulted in one student being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital.
Another two students were transported to hospital by road.
Careflight and Toll Rescue were tasked to Woy Woy to assist NSW Ambulance with the incident.
Woy Woy Rugby Union president Mr Phil Burgess later revealed: "One of our under-16 players was affected and airlifted to hospital, along with two others who also were taken to hospital for their burns.
"Our thoughts and love go out to the children and teachers involved in the accident in the Science Lab this week.
"We wish them all a speedy recovery."
On the day, the college posted a social media "notification" stating: "There is a medical incident on site.
"Supports are in place for students and staff and we are still operational.
"Phones may be down and affected.
"All immediate families affected have already been contacted.
"Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time."
It is understood that, following the incident, the Education Department banned "fire tornado" experiments throughout the state while the incident is under investigation.
