Rescue crew travels 53 nautical miles over six hours
A three-man Marine Rescue crew had a six-hour 53 nautical mile journey on Thursday, December 5, in completing two rescues.
First-off, the crew went seven nautical miles out from Box Head to assist a stranded six-metre centre-console fishing boat, suffering hydraulic steering failure.
Lumpy seas restricted the crew's response speed, but they were on scene by 8.30am and had the vessel back to safe haven at Patonga after a 90-minute tow.
Completing that job, a call came in to assist a NSW Parks and Wildlife punt with four people on board at the the M1 Pacific Motorway river bridge at Deerubben.
Having contaminated fuel, they required a tow back to the nearby Deerubben boat ramp.
