Southern and Ettalong have 5-0 win over Avoca
Southern and Ettalong United have had a convincing round four 5-0 win over Avoca on May 8.
Southern and Ettalong turned in their most complete performance of the season so far to defeat the young Avoca outfit.
Southern's first goal of the day was a fine effort by Michael Tawyer from an acute angle, which opening the scoring for his side midway through the first half.
Southern continued to ask questions of the Avoca defence all through the first half but Avoca was strong and determined in their efforts to keep the scoreline at 1-0.
Unfortunately, the Sharks could not hold out to half-time as Southern dealt two telling blows in the closing minutes before the break.
The first was a back post header by Josh Fletcher of a well-executed corner and the second was a quality finish by the mercurial Keith Gumbs.
Southern entered half-time with a 3-0 lead.
Southern continued their outstanding ball movement and purposeful lead-up play in the second half.
Midway through the last 45 minutes, Jacob Lepre made it 4-0 with a composed finish.
Sam Webb burst out of the midfield, with several bounce passes and clean dribbling, to complete Southern's five goals with a shot that gave the opposition goalkeeper zero chance.
"The challenge now for Southern is to show their consistency in their performances," said Southern and Ettalong United coach Dale Eggleton.
