Progress association holds scholarship concerts

Pearl Beach Progress Association will hold its annual Pearl Beach Music and Irvine Family Piano Scholarship Concerts at 2pm on Saturday and Sunday, May 22 and 23, at the Pearl Beach Memorial Hall.

The concerts are performed by Central Coast Conservatorium students with scholarships awarded to the value of $2250, sponsored by the progress association and the Irvine family.

The scholarships include a $250 "People Choice" which offers the audience the opportunity to choose their favourite performance.

The concerts were not able to be held last year due to coronavirus restrictions.

Conservatorium artistic director Mr Patrick Brennan said: "This prestigious event is an excellent opportunity for Conservatorium students to perform for their local community and deliver truly breath taking performances.

"The prize money will help them further their musical studies."

A Junior Showcase Concert is held "to celebrate solo instrument and vocal performance by the Central Coast Conservatorium junior students".

"The showcase concert embraces the concept of pure performance rather than competitive performanc and allows our younger musicians to perform with focus, passion and conviction," Mr Brennan said.

This year the $1000 Pearl Beach Progress Association Scholarship has been sponsored in memory of Pearl Beach resident, the late Ms Jill Roe.

"Jill will be remembered as a much-loved and respected Australian historian, biographer and academic," said association publicity officer Ms Lynne Lillico.

Adjudicator will be Ms Leigh Carter, piano tutor at Newcastle Conservatorium of Music.

Accompanist will be Mr Noah Perez.

Progress association president Mr Russell Grove has asked the community to support these young musicians by attending the concerts.

Concert tickets cost $10 each, or two concerts for $15.

"Due to Covid regulations, we are limited with numbers in the hall," said Ms Lillico.

"A Covid QR check and regulations will apply at both concerts."

Bookings are essential and should be made on 4344 2319.
