Rainfall approaches average as normal pattern returns

Rainfall has returned to a more normal rate in the first two weeks of May, after two months of extremes.

A total of 59.4mm fell in the first two weeks of the month, which compares to a May average of 74mm, according figures supplied by Mr Jim Morrison of Umina.

The heaviest fall was 29.0mm recorded on May 6 and the second heaviest 15.8mm on May 13.

The cumulative total for the year stands at 649.2mm which is also approaching the average figure for the end of May of 657mm.

March was the second wettest March in 16 years and April the second driest April in 16 years.
