Empire Bay contributes to disaster appeal
Empire Bay Public School has raised $571.55 by holding a mufti day on Friday, February 4, for those affected by cyclone Yasi and the Queensland floods.
"All of us have been shocked and moved by the devastation caused by the Queensland and Victorian floods and cyclone Yasi," said Empire Bay Public School principal Ms Sharon McEvoy.
"Along with hundreds of other schools around NSW, we are lending a hand," she said.
Ms McEvoy said a $200 donation came from Knightguard security which will go toward the flood appeal.
Ms McEvoy said a community fundraiser held on the Sunday raised more than $4000.
"Joel Haughton and his family and Brook Simmons from
Pursuit Communications organised it with Andrew Mathers from the Empire Bay Tavern," she said.
"The event raised over $4000 so in total, so together we raised close to $5000 for those affected by the natural disasters.
"What an amazing community response," said Ms McEvoy.
