Stall for guide dogs
A fundraising stall will be held in Woy Woy on Wednesday, March 2, to raise money for people with vision impairments.
The Guide Dogs NSW-ACT Central Coast Support Group will run the stall between 9:30am and 3pm in Deepwater Plaza and the group is looking for volunteers to sell merchandise and raffle tickets.
The group's contribution to Guide Dogs was recently recognised by the local community when the support group was nominated for a Gosford Council Australia Day Award last month.
Group president Ms Barbara Craig thanked local businesses, media, shopping centres and the public for their ongoing support, saying their efforts made a significant contribution to Guide Dogs, which receives no government funding.
"Guide Dogs relies on the public's generosity to provide vital services to people who need them free of charge," said Ms Craig.
"By supporting Guide Dogs, you are helping someone who is blind or has limited vision to learn how to use mobility aids like canes, electronic devices and guide dogs to safely, confidently and independently get around his or her community," she said.
A number of local residents with impaired vision who use a guide dog are among the group's members, and will attend the fundraising stall and give visitors a firsthand account of what it's like to live with vision impairment.
